I spent fifteen years in the editorial department at Grand Central Publishing (previously Warner Books) before leaving to work as an independent contractor. Four of my years “in house” were spent as the Editorial Director of Warner Aspect, the science fiction, fantasy, pop culture, and horror imprint. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the greats in that genre: David Eddings, Jacqueline Carey, Carrie Vaughn, Octavia Butler, Nalo Hopkinson, and Michael Moorcock.

Later I transitioned into mainstream fiction and nonfiction, with a specialization in thrillers. I’ve worked on every type of thriller from legal to archaeological to supernatural. I spent more than a decade as the acquiring editor for the joint novels of Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. I also worked with the estate of Robert Ludlum and presided over an expansion of that program from two titles per year to three. That work involved finding and developing authors for the program.

Another highlight of my career was launching author Julianna Baggott’s critically acclaimed adult/teen crossover novel Pure. A futuristic dystopian story that drew my love of thrillers, science fiction, and Teen novels together into one awe-inspiring project. The novel received endorsements from a host of literary and genre writers and the New York Times praised it as well.

I have discovered many new authors and have seen at least thirty-two individual titles make it to the New York Times bestseller list for print books, many in the top 10. I’ve worked on tie-in projects to major properties including movies, television shows, and video games, and I’ve worked on graphic novels and teen fiction.

These days, I have a mixture of publisher and private author clients. My trade clients include The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, where I am developing their ebook anthology program. I edit certain authors at Forge (part of Tor/Macmillan) and Simon & Schuster’s Teen division. I also have packaged (and partially written) original books for Open Road Media.

My private clients are often first time authors trying to ready their book for publishers or for self-publication. Though many seasoned authors have sought me out to help them rethink and improve their craft. Authors are always learning, always challenging themselves to grow. Like a sports coach that helps athletes to reach their maximum scoring potential, I help authors become better writers.
